The boat is in extremely good condition for her age (approx 1980). She has not been in the water for the last year or so, hence she is rather dry and thus I would expect light (just what you want for a competitive/fast boat).

The hull is structurally very sound, her bottom has been epoxy coated and has several coats of black teflon thin film anti foul (the expensive stuff - but if you want to win races!). The gel coat is the original (light blue - not painted - so no hidden repairs) and does have a bit of a chalky appearance (sunlight does this - a good polish is all that is needed to return to original so as to impress the neighbours but such does not make her sail any faster.)

Hunter built 982 Europa boats between 1972 and 1982 so there's lots of boats to sail against but often few good ones for sale, perhaps that indicates their pedigree.

A full complement of sails are included with spinnaker, the rig is not the original, it has been updated with a Holt Allen mast (plus spreaders) and boom both of which are to classs rules and in very good condition.

(Sails - Mainsail, rope luff full genoa (I think 130% ok to say F3), wire luff genoa (~ 120%), small jib, 2 spinnakers, 1 spinnaker launch sleave and hoop, spinnaker pole etc.)

She is ready to go sailing, be it safe cruising or racing. The safe part comes from the large fin keel on these boats they are impossible to capsize, which is not the case with many similar family sized day boats with bilge or lift keels - I always think its best to keep the family safe even though a fin keel boat is harder to get back on the trailer as deeper water is required - a longer rope and you have to wade - but not at Windermere the wardens are very helpful and have had lots of practice.

The builder claims that this class of boat has four berths but I think 2 plus 2 children would be a maximum, really this class is best used as a day boat and has good shelter if it starts raining or as camping style accommodation for 2+2 but you could make a boom tent which does help.

Other equipment: anchor, fenders, outboard engine drop down bracket. No electronics, no battery. Single burner with kettle, cushions good condition (red).

To answer the request for some more photo's, I've taken to the garden armed with digital camera, of course, its raining so photo's not so good. Also I didn't have time (or inclination) to wash the boat either so dirt, leaves and other green product included on deck, the joys of storing your boat under the trees, well at least the photo's show a real life condition.

The boat has sitting head room which enables your better half to make a brew without getting wet, if you're over 6 foot tall then you would have to sit on the cushion on the boat's center line. The gas ring also provides a surprising amount of heat which has been used to keep crew happy and extend the sailing season!


When sails are in use, the bow section is a safe area for the kids to play.





The side berth cushions extend to the transom making good sized sleeping accommodation for the tallest adults at both sides of the boat.


The keel is large (in this class) for the boat size which ensures extremely good windward performance, the wood blocks clamped to the trailer arms were added to ensure the keel landed central when pulling from the water (simple but it works - a chamfer on the top inner edge would improve the look though.) 

The vertical trailer post aft of the keel provides for good location and load balance, plus it stops the boat slipping backwards up hills when trailing (so less need for lots of tie down ropes), on the boat park it can fit the other way up so you can safely move aft in the cockpit, of course, you remove it prior to launching. 





The dirt/green covering on the deck shown below is what you expect when not cleaned for the majority of the year and you keep the boat safe under the trees. Also the running rigging is rather green but a good scrub and a quick cycle in the washing machine for the ropes and she will be very presentable again. The mast is mounted during storage to ensure that no unwanted bends appear plus it helps prevent theft (bit of a problem getting under local bridges with mast up).

I must confess that sailing our bigger boat on the sea is taking precedence again but if the urge to do a Windermere or other Lake Series grows stronger then at least we don't need to do anything with the hull bottom - it's perfect, just a good afternoon with the scrubbing brush on the topsides. 

The trailer bearings do need maintenance (these have stiffened up whilst the boat has been left standing and may need to be changed before she leaves the back yard - safety first) this will be done when a serious buyer emerges, it's not a big or difficult job but currently it's a theft preventer and the job will be easier when it stops raining and gets warmer (I must be getting soft in my increasing years!). The trailer brakes seem fine but would benefit from being bedded in again before trailing at speed I guess, otherwise the road trailer is structurally very sound without the usual dreaded corrosion seen in other examples, probably because we haven't launched in the sea.  The boat/trailer tows surprisingly well at speed with the 4 wheels and rubber suspension, most people without the experience think fin keeled boats look top heavy for towing but remember the weight is in the keel and not the fibre glass hull.  

I'm not suggesting here that the boat is not suitable for the sea - it is suitable. This class has good stability and a good reputation for use in coastal waters, if you are looking for a 20 foot cruiser for sea use then I would certainly recommend this class of boat over others of a similar size, I have sailed one of this class in the sea with some success but not this boat, it's just that now we are fortunate enough to own a larger vessel that we use in the sea, which is too large to trailer sail and use on the Lakes, plus this 20' boat is ideal for racing with just a crew of two - no need for crew members are needed with the strength of a gorilla in order to be competitive.
